Dave Dahl was born in Oregon and at the age of nine started working in his father’s bakery; But that didn’t last long as he would get caught up in a life of drugs and crime in his teen years that would follow him throughout much of his life. He would spend 15 years in prison for various crimes such as drugs and burglary.
It was in the mid-2000s that he would return to the family bakery and create an organic, crusty bread with whole grains and seeds that would be become a hit — first at local farmers markets, and then eventually sold at grocery stores nationwide. The brand was known as Dave’s Killer Bread.
In 2015, he would sell the brand to Flower Foods for a reported $275 million dollars.
